We have three 'hub' areas in which our teams are based, covering the length of Morecambe Bay's coastline, from Barrow in Cumbria down to Fleetwood in Wyre, Lancashire.
The towns around Morecambe Bay represent a variety of industries, from tourism to fishing and shipbuilding, many of which have been greatly affected by declines in those workforces, as well as the more recent isolation caused by the pandemic.
These are the communities which The Bay will be helping over the length of the project, helping people to connect with nature and work on their wellbeing through helping with important coastal conservation work
Learn more about each of our hubs by clicking on the links below. These pages have more information about our locations in each hub area, community events in that area, and pictures from past events and sessions.
Beneath the bay
Morecambe Bay covers an area of 310 square kilometres and contains the largest area of saltmarsh and intertidal flats in the country, making it an important coastal habitat. Beneath the sea itself, there's a large trench known as the Lune Deep which provides a home for a wide range of wildlife including bivalves, crustaceans and anemones.
Watch this video by Natural England to learn more about the Lune Deep, and the range of wildlife that can be found in Morecambe Bay
